To really understand business, you need to understand business people. That’s what the ACCELERATE programme at RBS is all about. It’s designed to transform you into one of RBS’ Relationship Managers or Product and Sales specialists of the future. Sound interesting? Then this could be the new career for you!
What is the ACCELERATE programme?
Our ACCELERATE programme is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and experiences that will take you beneath the surface of our UK Corporate Banking business. A number of our UK Corporate Banking customers have access to their own dedicated Relationship Managers or Products and Sales specialists and they are based in areas such as Business and Commercial Banking and Global Transaction Services. Based over two years, the ACCELERATE programme balances on-the-job training with formal development courses. You have a tailored induction in your chosen business area and the opportunity to study for the Applied Diploma in Corporate Banking (or equivalent professional qualifications), paid for by RBS.
What does it involve?
- Year One
You will start in a support role to a manager, where you will learn the bank’s processes and systems, product knowledge and sales and communication skills. You will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge you’ve gained into more challenging and customer-focused areas. - Year Two
You will develop a greater understanding of your business area and study professional qualifications, such as your Applied Diploma in Corporate Banking (or equivalent professional qualifications). You’ll be faced with greater challenges and really start to understand what it means to develop a successful career at RBS.
Who are we looking for?
Ambitious and motivated people seeking a flexible career in UK Corporate Banking, and ready to earn as they learn. Your persuasive, ‘can do’, customer-focused attitude means you’ll see targets as something to beat, not just meet. You will also have a natural ability to analyse, prioritise and make sound decisions to manage key relationships with businesses large and small. But above all, you will need the right attitude to succeed in RBS – because, sometime soon, you could be responsible for your own portfolio of clients.
Quotes from current colleagues:
“The Flying Start programme has provided me with an excellent opportunity to progress into the Business Manager role. Through several interesting and challenging placements over the past 18 months, I have been able to develop my personal skills and knowledge of the financial market to such a level where I am now positioned in a permanent role. The programme has provided a level of support which far exceeded my expectations, from the programme manager, to all my colleagues in each placement I attended. I would and have recommended the various programmes offered by RBS to my friends and family, as this has been a huge step forward in my career progression.”
Tom Portas
“The Flying Start programme provides a fantastic insight into business banking. I came to RBS without any banking experience and the Flying Start programme has provided me with the knowledge and support to go forward and hopefully have a successful career within the banking industry.
Support is available from a variety of sources during the Flying Start Programme. Whether it be from the programme co-coordinators or experienced colleagues, everyone is always happy to lend a helping hand.”
Scott Harrison
“Flying Start gives a good insight into business banking with a hands on approach. You will get as much or as little out of it depending on how much you are prepared to put in to it. The programme provides a great support network from the other participants past and present and there is always someone to call on when you're in need of help”.
